New Saints materialise

I am currently working on 15 new saints to bring up the total to 50. St Gamer is the latest addition to the brotherhood, joining Saints Bogoff and Zero Hours. New prints at Prospect

Two new artists produced excellent prints at the printing workshop at Prospect Studio last weekend. Jasper Howard made some amazing chine colle prints depicting his father. Neil Hodgsons portrait was bitten for several times to produce deeper lines. Kay Macintosh experimented with drypoint.

Whitworth Visit

Studio Saints.

As part of the Reveal Open Studio, visitors were encouraged to draw and print their own saint in Alans studio. Some great prints were produced and prizes of 8 saintly postcards were awarded.  

Saint Selfie in Venice

Saint Selfie came face to face with his inspiration in Venice. The painting by was the starting point for Saint Selfie. More saintly pics will follow, having seen others in Porto, Braga and Venice.

Teachers in Print

Teachers from the Bury area, spent a day at the Whitworth working with artists and creative practitioners . Using the exhibition Art Textiles as resource material teachers, teachers produced written pieces, textile pieces, objects and mixed media pieces with Alan Birch.

Saints to Headline at Leeds.

Alan Birch will hopefully be presenting his drypoints and his etchings of Later-Day Saints at the International Medieval Congress  in July. He plans to have 50 saints complete by that date and he will be in residence in July. Over 2000 Medievalists will be present and the special thematic strand is Food, Feast & Famine. […]

Saints visit Chester.

Alan Birch is currently showing a selection of his Later-Day saints and some drypoints at Telfords Bar and Restaurant at Chester. The show will run until February and all work is for sale. An informal opening is planned for January, email Alan for details.
