Late night printing at the Whitworth.

Some inspired and experimental  printmaking took place at the Whitworth as part of Museums night. Over 40 people created prints, some chine collie prints and drypoints, reflecting work and performances in the gallery.

Disciples gather at Library

Alan Birch, showed visitors and friends, his new additions to the Later-Day saints series on show at The John Rylands Library. Over 60 people viewed, plates, proofs and 9 new saints as well as being told of the influences behind the work. Show runs until 26th June.

Degree of Print at Rylands

https://jrleducation.wordpress.com/ Degree students from Salford University spent the morning at The John Rylands Library in Manchester, listening to artist Alan Birch, talk about the influences and inspiration behind his series of prints Later-Day Saints. In the afternoon students worked with Alan at the print room at the University, using medieval images as their inspiration.  

Engraving nature.

As part of the “Nature and Us” events as part of the Big Saturday event at Manchester Museum, visitors took the opportunity to work with artist Alan Birch   to create engravings from the museum collection. Visitors spent time drawing and engraving their creations before inking and printing their plates using Alan’s portable printing press.

Tameside College visit The John Rylands Library.

Animation students spent the afternoon at The John Rylands Library on Deansgate, in the company of artist Alan Birch. Students were given a tour of Alans exhibition Later-Day Saints in the Historic Reading Room, before creating their own prints, inspired by Medieval illustrations and images from the John Rylands collection.

As part of the exhibition Later-Day saints at The John Rylands Library on Deansgate in Manchester, the library are offering free workshops for secondary schools in the Greater Manchester area. Collograph Day at Prospect Studio.

Artists spent a weekend at Prospect Studio,  initially constructing collograph plates, prior to inking and printing them the following day. Artists worked with Alan Birch, editioning prints, involving rollovers, viscosity printing and chine collie. The results were spectacular!
