WYPW print day.

Artists at West Yorkshire Print Workshop spent a day working with artist Alan Birch, producing drypoint prints on perspex. The workshop was organised alongside Alan’s exhibition of Later-day Saints at the gallery in January. For some this was their first taste of drypoint and the results were excellent.

Print beginners.

GCSE pupils from Audenshaw used the works on display at the Whitworth to produce a series of prints to enhance their GCSE coursework. Many used the  technique of drypoint together with chine colle to develop works linked to exam themes. For many this was their first experience of print.      

Handmade Printing.

Extinction at the Museum

Visitors to Manchester Museum spent time, looking at the Extinction/Survival exhibition before producing inspirational and creative prints based on displays in the museum. Renaissance prints

Pupils from St Gabriels RC Secondary School, were introduced to the work of renaissance printmaker Marcantonio Raimondi. Year 10 pupils produced drawings from the works on display before producing engravings on metallic card. After engraving the plates pupils inked their own plates and printed them using a portable press.

Night at the Museum

Over 130 overseas students, spent a late night at Manchester Museum, producing engravings based on the collection. Over 800 students attended the event and for many this was their first taste of printmaking. Alan Birch  assisted by Jasper Howard inked and printed the prints in 2 hours, probably a museum record.
