Year 3 pupils from Holcombe Brook Primary School visited the Whitaker Museum in Rawtenstall , working from the museum collection and producing prints with Alan Birch. Over 70 GCSE and A level students from Ambrose Barlow RC HIGH School in Salford spent a day producing engravings and relief prints to enhance their coursework. Working with tutor Bernadette Furey and printmaker Alan Birch the students used a variety of techniques including chine colle to hopefully improve their grades.

Alan Birch worked with asylum seekers at Manchester Museum, introducing them to the world of printmaking. The group who have been following a course at the museum, with the intention of finding employment, produced some excellent work based on Alans work of contemporary saints.

Alan Birch ran a relief printing course for Bury Adult Education at Ramsbottom Library. The artists , many who had not printed for many years if at all , produced some excellent work. Hopefully other workshops will take place in the summer term. Watch out for details.

Printmaker Stuart Brocklehurst was guest artist at Prospect Studio , showing regular printmakers the art of Mezzotint. Printmakers spent a weekend developing plates and printing proofs at various stages. The layout intensive process produces sumptuous tonal prints . The plan is for Stuart to visit again later in year. Anyone interested contact Alan.

Small groups of pupils at Leyland Methodist Primary in Preston, worked with artist Alan Birch producing a range of prints. Pupils explored mono printing, relief printing and engraving producing small collections of prints.
