Year 5 pupils from Leyland Methodist Schools spent an exciting and creative day working with artist Alan Birch. Responding to the theme of Rousseau’s jungle themed paintings, pupils produced drawings which were later turned into engravings and printed on a relief background of leaves. Artists continue to work at Prospect Studios under the guidance of printmaker Alan Birch. Artists have been particularly busy with collographs, relief prints , etchings and aquatints and monoprints being created. Featured artists are Caroline Johnson, Ella Cole, Janet Butcher, Jill Randall, Gillian Smithson, Hermione Walker and Cath Stanley.
Over the winter term several secondary groups have visited the Whitworth to explore printing with Alan Birch. Students have explored the exhibitions currently on display , producing drawings which have been transformed into prints. Engraving and collage have been used to great effect. For many pupils this was their first venture into printing.

Students expanded their creative repertoire into engraving, chine college and relief printing, using their coursework as starting points.
