Egypt at Barnoldswick.
COATES LANE PRIMARY SCHOOL
For a week in June 2014, artists Alan Birch and Felix Evans worked with Year 5 at Coates Lane Primary School producing a body of work on the theme of Egypt.
Over a period of 5 days pupils worked tirelessly and enthusiastically, exploring a range of printmaking, drawing and painting techniques Over the five days pupils produced work on the theme of Egyptian gods, the creation of their own gods, buildings ancient and modern, hieroglyphs, egyptian figures, illustrated alphabet, and even mummifying personal objects. Printing techniques covered included monoprinting, relief printing, engraving and found object printing.
Pupils even found time to pray to Saint Last Minute to bring England luck in the world cup, the only failure of the week! Taking as their inspiration journeys made by the pharaohs in the afterlife, pupils were asked to imagine making a journey in the future, inventing their own futuristic means of travel, and taking their valued personal objects along. A body of drawings and engravings were produced on the theme of futuristic journeys, which were printed on a portable etching press and bound for posterity.
