Printed Portraits

Students from Salford City College spent a morning with printmaker Alan Birch, looking at artists portraits in print and producing a series of works investigating facial features.

The workshop organised by the Education Department at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, linked into the current exhibition Family Allowance.

” The workshop was excellent, the students responded very well, most of the students have behavioural or  learning difficulties  and you can see that in the work, but I personally thought the work was good, considering they were doing this for the first time and they worked and responded very well to Alan. I was nervous about them working with someone they did not know , but it was a very good experience all round. ”
