Mexico visit. Real del Monte.
Alan Birch visited Mexico City and Real del Monte during October and November as part of a research project. Over the last two years Alan has been working with sculptor Jill Randall, producing a series of prints, based on the mineworkings found in Cornwall. This culminated in an exhibition of prints at Geevor Tin Mine in Cornwall. In an extension of this project the artist went with a delegation from Redruth to visit the silver mines of Real del Monte , which were brought back into production by Cornish miners in the 19th century. The people of Real del Monte treated us like Royalty and we were there for the paste festival!!! Hopefully the experience will result in new work next year.
