Hokusai and Volcanoes
Year 6 pupils from St Ambrose Preparatory School in Hale Barns, spent a day producing relief and intaglio prints with artist Alan Birch. Pupils have been looking at the work of Japanese maestro Hokusai alongside volcanoes., and these subjects were used for the prints. Pupils were shown all forms of printmaking, and then produced drawings which were used for studies for the prints. A sample of work is shown below.
Hi Alan,
thank you for a very productive and enjoyable day last Friday. Once everything was dry we put our work together, showing the process, and it looks amazing.
Here are some quotes from the boys.
‘I really enjoyed today as I learnt some briliant new skills. The art was amazing, everyone made some great art’
‘Alan was very kind and helped us massively. I feel much more confident in my art and it was a great experience’
It was really enjoyable to do. Alan taught us how to do two different types of printing and showed us art work that he has done.’
‘i really enjoyed all of it and it was fun!’
